Pegge Tinker (Strella)

Betsy and I became friends in the 10th grade. I loved going to her house in Asharoken for parties and sleep overs. At one particular party some girls were playing with the ouji board and someone decided we should try and levitate Betsy's father (who was a very BIG man). We all gathered around him and did it though I am sure it was due to the number of girls there and not anything spiritual!

Bestys house was shaped kind of like an open V where her parents were on one side on the second floor and all the  kids (I believe there were 7) on the otherside. The house was very big and each child was able to have their own room though some chose to share roooms. There was even a "stage room" where they held performances. The walls in the hall had graffiti from each child which was approved by her parents. I thought them such free thinkers! They also has a milk machine in the kitchen (her father owned a dairy). You could dispense a glass of milk by pulling the lever. So cool. The milk bottles distributed around town had a line drawing picture of each Meyer child on the side.

Besty use to sneak out of her house taking her parents station wagon and pick many of us up. We would tool around the town thinking we were pretty cool. I can't bleieved we never got caught especailly due to the hour we were out. We never did anything really bad, it just felt great to be driving around with the music blasting and your friends.

We double dated many times, she with Mike and me with Bill. We ususally went to the drive in movies in Commack. I'm not sure when we started drifting apart but we did. Probably due to a change in friends. I will always remember Betsy fondly with all the memories shared.
