Christopher Story

Charlie was my best friend through Junior H.S. and beyond H.S..  We spent lots of time together doing our homework together and later hanging out with each other.  While in H.S. he met Peggy Callahan class of 69 which meant we did'nt see as much of each other but still remained good friends.   After H.S. Charlie inlisted in the Navy and was stationed on a aircraft carrier in the South China sea, and while in the Navy in 1972 he married Peggy.   He also went to collage and earned a engineering degree in the Navy and later returned to collage to extend his education.  They had three kids, Bobby, Patrick, and Christopher.   After his discharge from the Navy Charlie went to work for Grumman Airo Space and swiftly roes up the ranks to become boss of his division. Both Charlie and Peggy spent lots of time with me and my wife Debbie at each others homes and would go out together.  Charlie was also an accomplished carpenter learning the business from his dad and was able to do alot of building for others as well as himself.  He was also a great cub scout leader helping his sons on their projects as well as all of the members of the troupe.  I was one of the leaders also as Charlie needed help to handle all the kids, but it was him who was the heart and soul of the troupe.  He was able to build a nature center as a cub scout  project at Blidenberg Park in Hauppauge, N.Y..  By this time Charlie was a rising star in Northrup-Grumman and was offered a promotion to plant manager and would have to move to Lake Charles, Louisiana, and in 1992 he accepted it and was on his way.  I was shocked that one of my best friends was moving away with his family that far.  I guess you have to do what's best for him and the family.  After they went all went well for a few years untill Peggy got sick and was hospitalized.  She recovered but her health was never the same and Charlie seemed to change at the same time.   Charlie and I spoke less and less as time went by and the next thing I knew him and Peggy were divorcing.   After they split I only spoke to him once, as time went on the kids married and they became the grand parents of four.  Both of them went off to remarry and started new lives with new partners.  Then Charlie in 2007 got sick with lung cancer due to his years of smoking and on Feb.23,2008 he succumb to the disease.  Peggy  and I remain good friends and she holds no Ill will towards Charlie and is happy in her new life retired and helping to rase a grand child.    I will always remember him as my good friend, rest in peace Charlie Rondeau.
