It is with great sadness that I write that Donna Maritato passed away on 1/9/17 of a cerebral hemorrhage at the age of 66. She lived in Camden, ME with her husband Bob Grobe.
I so distinctly remember meeting Donna. Having relocated with my family from the Midwest to Northport the summer before my junior year, I recall starting at NHS that fall with a mixture of excitement and anxiety, wondering about this place and who my new friends would be. Early on, Donna reached out to me and I was struck by her humor, her shy friendliness, her gentle spirit and that amazing smile that so often lit up her face and the space around her. Donna became a dear and trusted friend, and part of a circle of friends for whom I am forever grateful. The world was a better place with Donna in it and she will be missed, but the memories will always remain and bring comfort. Thank you, Donna
My thoughts and memories are similar to Sharon's. Although not a transplant to Northport, as a junior I was new to NHS and searching for my place and new friends. Donna became and remained one of those friends. So many memories but what shines through is Donna's spirit - the essence of goodness and a loving heart- with a warm smile as a constant. She will be missed but her spirit will remain in my heart.

I, too remember Donna's smile. She was shy, but friendly and kind. I am sorry to hear of her passing. May she soar with the angels.
